Getting Crafty {on a budget}

There’s no doubt that photo booths are a wedding trend that’s here to stay — they’re just so much fun! But when planning a wedding, especially on a budget, there are always things you need to cut back on or details you can’t include. So a professional photo booth may not be in your budget, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have one. You just need to get a little creative, but that’s where I’m here help.

It’s safe to say there will be a few cameras (or a few dozen) at your wedding. And while your photographer may not be stationed at your homemade photo booth the whole time, he or she will still be able to get a few shots there. All you need are a backdrop and some props. For the backdrop you could find a cool wallpapered wall in your venue or just hang up a sheet (like my friend did below) or some streamers (see here).

As for the props, here’s where you get to have a little more fun. Hats and sunglasses are always crowd-pleasers — and I’m sure between you and your friends and your old Halloween costumes and kids’ toy bins, you’ll be able to scrounge up enough of them. The best part?! That’s all free!

If you want to get a little crafty, you can make your own themed props. You’ll just need some popsicle sticks or sturdy paper straws, some cardboard, tape and colored paper. I was so impressed by my sister’s DIY graduation props, that I just had to share!

She got the idea off of Pinterest, no less — and you can buy these all over Etsy (here) — but why not, make your own?! Your friends will be impressed. I love a good hashtag – and this is another great opportunity to share your wedding hashtag with your guests!

Fun photos. Great memories. Happy guests. And more importantly, happy wallet.

Seems you can turn anything into a “pop.” And seems fairly simple too – If you’re already baking mini desserts, the final step should just say, “Add lollipop stick.” While this concept certainly isn’t new, it’s around to stay. Dessert pops make the perfect treat for your wedding guests, as they can just grab and go – Plus, everyone always wants “just a bite!”

{5} I’ve been totally craving donuts lately – And I guess that’s because they really are everywhere these days. And now donuts are making their way into the wedding scene. I’m seeing donut cakes as wedding cakes, birthday cakes and shower cakes. I love the idea of popping some donut holes on sparkly skewers for a bridal brunch or shower. And I’ve had the image of a donut on a stirrer in hot chocolate pinned since my own days of wedding planning – Such a cute touch for a winter wedding!!

I think we all know donuts aren’t just for breakfast anymore – And they’re definitely another fun option for your dessert table! Okay, now I’m hungry.

First of all, I can’t even handle the cuteness of these pictures. And second, I’m spotting another total trend here with tutus for flower girls. This trend has definitely been around for a while, but it’s still trending and I really don’t see it going away anytime soon. It’s just too cute! Plus, you know how much we love a good tulle skirt around here – whether it’s on a bride or a flower girl!

I keep finding more and more that I absolutely adore – and most tend to be on Etsy! Even better in my opinion. Also, does anyone else spot two trends in the last photo? Hello baby’s breath!

You know what else is trending? Naked wedding cakes. What’s that you say?! Cakes without all the frosting and fondant. But boy, are they still gorgeous? I’m not sure if it was Momofuku Milk Bar who started this trend or just everyone’s love for funfetti (thanks Pillsbury!), but I’m on board.

So who’s going naked?!

ps. Is that a naked wedding cake I spy at Sean & Catherine’s ‘The Bachelor’ wedding?!

Seeing a trend here? I certainly am! While back details of wedding dresses have been popular for a couple of years now (think open backs, cut-out backs, low-cut backs), I’m seeing a new back trend lately – I’m going to call it the “elegant back.” Whether an intricate lace, delicate tulle or mixture of both, these gorgeous back details are popping up on lots of wedding dresses lately. And I’m a fan. I think it’s such a stunning, timeless look – and works for any time of year!

Are you a fan? Will you be wearing this look?
